Julia sobre el escenario

Julia, a Sesame Street character, arrives at the park to remind us of the importance of cognitive diversity and inclusion in places like PortAventura World. Her arrival highlights how we adapt our spaces and improve accessibility so that everyone who visits feels welcome, supported, and that their individual needs are met.

Meet Julia

Julia is creative, sensitive, loves drawing, and has autism. She was first introduced in 2015 as part of an autism awareness initiative by Sesame Workshop. Due to the positive response, she began appearing regularly in the Sesame Street TV series from 2017.

What Can We Learn with Julia?

At PortAventura World, inclusion is a real and shared experience. By incorporating Julia, we help normalize diversity through entertainment and show that there are many ways to communicate, feel, or engage with the world.

Actions to Improve Cognitive Accessibility and Inclusion

At PortAventura World, we reinforce our commitment to cognitive accessibility with the following initiatives:
• Incorporating Julia: Her presence in the park raises awareness about neurodiversity and educates families.
• New inclusive signage: We’ve added pictogram and color-coded signage in the SésamoAventura area to help orient visitors with autism. This was developed in collaboration with the Tarragona-based association Todos en Azul and the Aragonese Centre for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (ARASAAC).

PortAventura World’s Commitment to Families

In addition to raising awareness and adapting the park in terms of cognitive diversity, we are deeply committed to families with diverse needs:

PortAventura Dreams Village: A project offering free, adapted vacations to children with serious illnesses and their families.
• Improving accessibility: Installation of magnetic loops and visual technology at PortAventura Dreams Village in collaboration with Visualfy, a company that provides hearing accessibility solutions.
• Benefits for people with disabilities: Discounts, priority access, reserved areas, and adapted attractions to ensure a comfortable and safe visit.

This initiative is part of our Corporate Social Responsibility strategy and reinforces our position as a European leader in inclusive tourism.

Come to the park to meet Julia and learn about cognitive diversity. To complete the experience, you can purchase Julia’s official merchandise (t-shirt, bottle, notebook, and cap) at the ChikiTienda — a fun, educational, and sustainable souvenir.
